Weather radars are meant to measure wind and precipitation. And they do their jobs very well. But, as often happens, a technology developed for a particular purpose, ends up serving another, sometimes unforeseen, purpose. This article from this past summer on Jalopnik documents how a weather radar near Chicago picked up speedings cars, under special atmospheric circumstances.
