Washington State Flooding: Thousands Evacuate

World Weather Post - Thursday, January 8, 2009, 11:02

CNN reports that 15 inches of rain in the last two days has caused widespread flooding along rivers and streams in Washington State.

It is the western part of state which is most affected.

“Kyle Herman, Washington State Emergency Management spokesman, said eight cities are on a voluntary evacuation status. They are Orting, Packwood, Randle, Stanwood, Snoqualmie, Naselle, Fife, and parts of Tacoma — areas amounting to roughly 25,000 people. He said there are 20 local emergency declarations in various communities that were prompted by the recent heavy snowfall and rain. He said there are no mandatory evacuations and no reports of fatalities.”
