Photos from the Canon Rebel XS DSLR Camera

Apr 22, 2011; 2:43 PM ET

Earlier this winter I blogged about DSLR cameras in general, while i was testing the Canon EOS Rebel XL DSLR camera that I received from Fumfie.com (who, by the way, redesigned their website recently for quicker access to their very low prices, check it out).

The ultimate test for the Rebel XS for me will be nighttime lightning photography later this Spring. But meanwhile StormChaser Ron put the camera through its paces during our visit to the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh last month. He has an older Rebel, and was most surprised by how the XL focuses and takes pictures in succession very rapidly. They are also very crisp and clear, even without a tripod. Here are some of the best pictures that he took on that outing. Click on each picture, then “Original Size” to download the original photo.

Aquarium in low light? no problem.

Extremely low-light shot inside the Carnegie Science Center

Another, of their big train set. Note how the onboard flash lights the scenery up well.

Not bad in this tunnel, considering we were rolling and the light ranged from max to min.

Pittsburgh skyline at night, again without a tripod.

Channel 4′s Doppler Radar tower, shot at 60 mph from the passenger seat.

I spent several weeks reviewing the REBEL XS vs it’s many 10 MP adversaries, I even checked it against the ultra zooms as I wanted the convenience of video as well, but too many good things stood out with this camera and so I decided upon it.
