OMAN OBSERVER – By ONA/Kabeer Yousuf – MUSCAT — Heavy to moderate rains fell in wilayats of Dakhiliyah, Dhahirah, Sharqiyah and Batinah regions yesterday causing wadis to flow. The rains fell in Nizwa, Samayil and Bahla in the Dakhiliyah, the wilayats of Yanqul and Dhank in the Dhahirah region, the wilayats of Dima W’attayeen and Mudhaibi in the Sharqiyah region, and the wilayat of Al Rustaq in the Batinah region.
Light to moderate thunder showers are expected in the Sultanate, Al Hajar Mountains and adjoining areas and may extend to the coastal areas of Oman Sea according to the Director-General of Meteorology and Air Navigation (DGMAN). “These days we are expecting thunderstorms with chances of thunder showers along the Hajar Mountains which is just normal during summer,” a DGMAN spokesman told the Observer yesterday.
“Better chances of thunder showers over Muhafadhat Dhofar Mountains and adjoining areas are also expected but mainly clear skies will prevail over most of the Sultanate with chances of low clouds along the coastal areas and chances of convective cloud development and thunder showers over Al Hajar mountains and adjoining areas toward afternoon today,” he added.
He advised people not to get panic instead enjoy the salubrious weather while taking utmost precaution especially at the wadis.
“Moderate to heavy rains are expected in the Sultanate in the coming days and it is a local weather phenomenon. This type of weather change is experienced between June and September and is a feature of Oman’s topography. Pleasant weather is to be experienced in Dhakhiliyah, Al Sharqiyah and in Al Batinah regions and people ought to enjoy the weather.”
Contrarily, people were triggered by baseless panic and were seen doing brisk shopping at most of the malls in the capital city. Some outlets in the city witnessed considerable increase in customers.
