Steadily increasing humidity will make it feel much warmer across the Chicago area today than it did yesterday as highs reach into the lower to mid 90s. The big difference will be a significant jump in the dew point temperature, or humidity. The higher humidity will send the “feels like”, or heat index temperature to between 95 and 105 degrees. The human body begins to lose the ability to efficently cool itself when the heat index is over 100 degrees.
Severe thunderstorm threat looms tonight
All of this heat and humidity may fuel strong to severe thunderstorms over Wisconsin and northern Illinois tonight. In it’s 8AM update, The Storm Prediction Center has included northeast Illinois and Chicago in the severe weather risk area. Locally, the main storm threat will not arrive until after 10PM.
