While it is too early to speculate much on the nature and amount of the wet weather coming up, there could be enough at the local level to dent the drought. An inch of rain is possible in some places.
At this early stage, it appears the bulk of the rain will fall on the eastern counties, but some rain may reach southwestern areas of the state as well. The rain could bypass states farther north on the southern Plains, such as Oklahoma and Kansas.
New Severe Weather Potential
Along with the possibility of rain comes the chance of severe thunderstorms.

A storm that has been dancing just off the coast of California Friday will swing across northern Mexico this weekend. The storm’s next stop may be the heart of Texas by early next week.
While the setup thus far does not appear to be as volatile as that which took place this past week, it could get that way farther to the east over the lower Mississippi Valley during the middle of next week.
Enough warm, humid air may feed in as the storm tracks out of Texas and into Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and Alabama to intensify the storm.
We will know more over the course of the weekend about the rain coming to Texas, and early next week for the severe weather potential over the lower Mississippi Valley.
