Thanksgiving Weather 2005-2011

As I have for the last few years, I’ll take a look back at past Thanksgivings here in State College, Pennsylvania, home of AccuWeather HQ [Google Map]. Here’s a summary of State College weather* since I’ve been blogging for AccuWeather.com, plus national weather maps when available:

Clearly, the White Thanksgiving of 2005 holds the record for the coldest day, no matter what the measure. Warmest Thanksgiving would be 2007, but that high occurred at midnight and the temperature fell during the day, ending up third coldest. This year featured nearly normal temperatures (36/49) and partly cloudy skies. This is the first year I was out of town, spending the holiday in York, PA, where it was colder in the morning (28) but warmer in the afternoon (58).

Nationwide this year, the West coast was stormy but most of the country was dry and temperature. Previous years (and links to blogs):

We had considerable snow out West in 2007, and a swath of snow through the Midwest (see my blog entry from November 20, 2007). Here in Central Pennsylvania, I did a video outside on Thanksgiving morning when temperatures were in the 60s, but they plunged later that day. There was also a surprise snow in Texas, and tornadoes in Florida.

In 2006, after it snowed on Tuesday in Florida, I took a bunch of great weather photos on Thanksgiving Eve, and on Thursday it rained so hard that the Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Parade was almost cancelled. I about busted my butt on Black Friday Black Ice here in Central Pennsylvania.

And back in 2005 on Thanksgiving eve, Tropical Storm Delta formed (the 25th named Atlantic system that year) formed. my first year of blogging for AccuWeather.com, we had a White Thanksgiving here at AccuWeather HQ, and over 2 feet of lake-effect snow fell in New York state, along with high winds over the entire Northeast (waves even flooded the streets of Lake Erie). It was frigid on Black Friday with wind chills below -25 here.
